A Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA from Bhandara district has filed a complaint against a cab driver for allegedly giving him death threats during a heated argument that erupted over payment of toll on the sea link. Vakola police have registered an FIR and are further investigating the matter.

Raju Manikrao Karemore (53), NCP MLA from Tumsar constituency in Bhandara district, arrived at the Mumbai airport from Delhi on Wednesday morning. He wanted to go to the Akashwani Amdar Niwas in South Mumbai and booked a cab from Terminal 2 of the airport.

“Karemore told the driver that since he was an MLA, he would be exempted from paying the toll at Bandra-Worli sea link and requested the driver to take the vehicle from a particular lane,” states the FIR.

However, the taxi driver did not listen to him and began arguing with him saying that if the toll is not exempted he would have to pay the toll from his pocket, the FIR stated.

The MLA also told him that if the toll is needed to be paid then he would pay the toll. He also called the driver’s employer and asked him to tell the driver about the same. However, the taxi driver was non-compliant and during a heated argument, he allegedly threatened to kill Karemore, said the police complaint. The driver also refused to go to Akashwani Amdar Niwas and dropped Karemore midway at Vakola Junction.

Karemore reached the Vakola police station and filed a complaint. The police registered a case against the unidentified driver for threatening Karmore and are currently looking for him, said a police officer.
