Shaurya Chakra awardee Colonel Vembu Shankar of the Indian Army, three Param Vir Chakra awardees and families of 25 personnel who laid down their lives during 2022-23 will be felicitated by the Sri Shanmukhananda Sabha on August 15.
Lt General HS Kahlon, General Officer Commanding, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa area, will honour the soldiers and families at the Sabha auditorium. He will also present the Sri Shanmukha Shaurya Ratna award to Col Vembu Shankar.
Family of those who laid down their lives will get a cash solatium of Rs 2,00,000 each and mementos of Rs 50,000.
Col Shankar, who took voluntary retirement, started an initiative — project Sambandh, through which he has connected with more than 15,000 families of army personnel and helped them get their dues.
The Sabha will also launch a Param Vir Chakra Aawardees Gallery, and Sabha and Army health care hospital kiosk.
