A feud over the will of late Hindustani classical music maestro Pandit Bhimsen Joshi has brought to the limelight the split between the families of his two wives.
Raghavendra Joshi,Joshis son from his first wife,Sunanda Katti, has challenged his will in an appeal made before a special court, while Shrinivas, his son from the second wife Vatsala has called the allegations made in the appeal as false.
Raghavendra filed an application in the court to place a restraining order on Jayant and Shrinivas,Bhimsen Joshis sons from his second wife, from disposing of family property, including Kalashree,a bungalow in Sadashiv Peth, and two flats in the Sankul housing society in Erandwane.
The appeal alleges that Joshis will, dated September 22,2008 was forged, and that before it was made, his father had lost control of own body and mind. An interim order by the court on the appeal then restrained Jayant and Shrinivas from disposing of the properties.
Speaking to The Indian Express,Shrinivas said,The allegations that have been made are totally false and have been made with a motive of harassment. We are taking legal advice on this. At this point in time it wont be appropriate to comment further on this.
The will of Bhimsen Joshi who died on January 24,2011 was read out by Jayant and Shrinivas in the presence of Raghavendra four days after Joshis death.
The interim order by the senior division civil judge S R Yadav said,The impugned will is not appended with the fitness certificate showing the soundness and disposition state of mind of the late Bhimsen Joshi. The will has been registered after two months from the date of execution, that too by calling the sub-registrar to the house.
