The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking will introduce a new airconditioned (AC) bus service on route number A-84, connecting Dr Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Chowk (Museum) in South Mumbai to Oshiwara Depot in the western suburbs starting Sunday, officials said.

According to BEST, the initiative is part of its ongoing effort to add more AC buses to its fleet. The new route will operate along the recently opened Dharmaveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Sagari Kinara Marg or Coastal Road, offering passengers a faster and more comfortable commute between South Mumbai and the western suburbs.

The buses on this route will cover key locations including Ahilyabai Holkar Chowk (Churchgate station), Worli Sea Face, the mayor’s residence near Shivaji Park, Mahim, Andheri Station (West), Vile Parle, Oshiwara Bridge, Babasaheb Worlikar Chowk, Worli Depot and Santacruz Depot before terminating at Oshiwara Depot.

The first bus from Oshiwara will depart at 7.15 am, while the first service from Dr Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Chowk will leave at 8.50 am. The last bus from Oshiwara is scheduled at 5.20 pm, and the final service from the Museum will end at 7.15 pm. Services will be available at intervals of approximately 40 to 45 minutes, officials said.

The fare for the new route has been fixed at a minimum of Rs 12 and a maximum of Rs 25, making it one of the more affordable AC transport options available to commuters in the city. The service will operate throughout the week.

“BEST has been working to increase the number of airconditioned buses available to residents. With this new route, we hope commuters will benefit from a convenient and comfortable coastal connection,” said Sucheta Utale, Public Relations Officer, BEST.

The undertaking has appealed to passengers to avail of the new service and make use of the expanded transport options on the city’s road network.
