A 30-year-old woman died and her children were injured after a BEST goods carrier hit them in Matunga on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Matunga police,the woman,identified as Mary John Peter,was returning to her Antop Hill residence after picking up her children Francis (9) and Julie (7) from their respective schools. The driver lost control of the bus and hit the victims while they were crossing the road. Francis studies at the St George school and Julie at a convent school in Wadala.
Sub-inspector S Kadam from the Matunga police station said the driver was identified as Hunuman Vishnu Daiphude (30) and has been booked for death due to negligence.
The incident occurred at 2.30 pm when Daiphude was taking a right turn from the Matunga signal. After the accident,the woman was rushed to the KEM Hospital where she was declared dead. The two children were sent to the Sion hospital and have been admitted to the ICU, said Kadam. We will produce Dahipude in the court on Thursday, added Kadam.
