FORMER DEPUTY Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said Monday that he did not need to be present before the state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which has issued him summons in connection with alleged irregularities in irrigation projects in Raigad district. Along with Pawar, NCP state unit chief Sunil Tatkare has also been summoned by the ACB.
On Saturday, the investigation agency had issued summons to Pawar and Tatkare, who were the deputy chief minister and water resources minister at the time the alleged scam took place.
The duo were asked to either appear at the ACB head office or send their representatives on September 15 and September 16 respectively.

Pawar said the incident of issuing summons to them is being blown out of proportion.
“This is not the first time that we have been asked to clarify on certain contracts relating to the irrigation projects. They have issued similar summons earlier too. We have clarified each of the points raised by the ACB through our representatives. This time too, we will answer each of the queries raised by the ACB through our lawyers,” he said.
Pawar, however, refused to comment on whether they are being deliberately targeted for political gains by the ruling coalition.
“Since the inquiry is being conducted on the directions of the high court, I will not comment on it as of now and will do so at the appropriate time,” he said.
The former deputy chief minister said that they have nothing to hide and have therefore replied to each and every query raised by the ACB so far.
Tatkare too said that there is no need for them to appear before the ACB.
“The ACB itself has said that we can send our representatives,” he said.
On Sunday, ACB officials had told The Indian Express that investigations into the alleged irregularities in irrigation projects in Raigad district had several loopholes in the sequence of financial transactions and therefore they wanted certain clarifications from the duo.
On August 24, the ACB had registered the first FIR in the irrigation scam, booking 11 people in connection with alleged irregularities in awarding the contract for Balganga dam to FA Enterprises.
