Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik, who was granted two months’ interim bail by the Supreme Court on medical grounds, was released from hospital on Monday. Malik was discharged from judicial custody in hospital and he went to his home in Kurla, surrounded by a large gathering of supporters including NCP workers as well as his family members.

NCP’s Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule was present at the hospital to receive Malik and went to his home along with him. Apart from Sule, Ajit Pawar camp’s Narendra Rane and Sanjay Tatkare were also present to receive him.

Sule said the NCP is confident that Malik will be declared innocent by the court and thanked judiciary for releasing him on bail. “We are all here to welcome him as we always knew that he is innocent,” she said.

On Monday, his lawyers submitted the order passed on Friday by the apex court. The special court directed his release on a bond of Rs 50,000 along with a surety. He has also been directed not to make any statement to the media.

“Applicant/accused no.1 (Malik) shall not make any statement to any media like print, electronic, etc,” the bail condition states.

The other conditions imposed by the court include that he shall not make any inducement, threat or promises to any persons or witnesses acquainted with the case, that he shall furnish proof of his residence to the ED and also hand over his passport to the central agency. He is also directed to supply details of his medical examination to the ED from time to time.

Malik was admitted to a private hospital on the orders of the court since May 2022. The ED had arrested the former minister on February 23, 2022 in a money laundering case registered over the Goawala compound property in Kurla.
