Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray said on Saturday that the country has progressed the most only when alliance governments were in power and only such governments can bring inclusive development.
“We are against the dictatorial and authoritative government. The country has a history where every alliance government, be it of Atal Bihari Vajpayee or Dr Manmohan Singh, has performed well. In fact, the country has progressed the most only during alliance governments,” Thackeray said. He was addressing a press conference at his residence ‘Matoshri’ after leaders of different parties in Jalgaon district joined the Shiv Sena (UBT).
“We want a stronger country and an alliance government because it is becoming clear that when power is centralised in one person, it becomes dangerous for the country. We want a strong government which will be of an alliance and a stronger leader who will take everyone along,” Thackeray said.
The former Maharashtra chief minister said that the experience of the last 10 years shows that they (the BJP leaders) are progressing towards one nation, one party. “Attempts are being made to finish off others and hence I believe that one person should not be given the power,” he said.
When asked about Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray giving unconditional support to the ruling Mahayuti alliance in the state for the third term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Thackeray said, “Some are giving unconditional support while some are extending support by faking a fight.”
The veiled reference was to the Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA). The VBA was involved in seat-sharing discussions with the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) for over two months and finally decided to contest on its own, blaming the MVA.
