Assault on cop: Suspension of 5 MLAs revoked

The suspension of five MLAs,including Ram Kadam (MNS) and Kshitij Thakur (Bahujan Vikas Agadhi),was revoked in the Assembly Wednesday

The suspension of five MLAs,including Ram Kadam (MNS) and Kshitij Thakur (Bahujan Vikas Agadhi),was revoked in the Assembly Wednesday. They was charged with beating up assistant inspector (traffic) Sachin Suryavanshi in the lobby of Vidhan Bhawan. MLAs Pradeep Jaiswal,Rajan Salvi (both Shiv Sena) and Jaikumar Rawal (BJP) were declared not guilty in the budget session earlier.

Minister of state for parliamentary affairs Harshvardhan Patil made the announcement in the Assembly. Speaker Dilip Walse-Patil then sought consent of the House, which unanimously approved the motion.

In March,Suryavanshi fined Thakur at Bandra Worli Sea Link for violating the speed limit. Thakur raised the matter in the Assmebly, alleging that the cop had misbehaved with him. The matter took an ugly turn when Thakur and Kadam thrashed Suryavanshi at Vidhan Bhawan. After the incident, the MLAs were suspended.

A seven-member panel headed by PWP leader Ganpatrao Deshmukh was set up to probe the matter. It concluded that though Kadam and Thakur were at fault,Suryavanshi had also acted in a high-handed manner.
