Days after Additional Commissioner of Income Tax Sumitra Banerjee was held by the CBIs anti-corruption bureau,Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax,Circle 3,Anjali Bambole was arrested on Monday,allegedly for demanding a bribe from a builder.
Bambole had allegedly surveyed the tax liability of the Thane builders firm,while Banerjee had supervised it and demanded a bribe. The CBI has also unearthed property owned by Banerjee and revovered cash from their houses.
Rs 46 lakh in cash and foreign currency worth Rs 10 lakh were seized from Banerjees Chembur residence. We also found Rs 59 lakh in cash and jewellery from the two bank lockers operated by her. Besides,Banerjee owns property in Malaysia,a flat in Pune and two in Chembur. From Bamboles flat,we recovered Rs 6 lakh in cash. She owns three plots in Nagpur,three in Panvel and a house in Andheri, said CBI,DIG Sonali Mishra. Officials said they are investigating the role of a senior official named by Banerjee in the case.
