Amid speculation that Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar will join hands with the BJP to form the government as he did in 2019, Vijay Shivtare, the spokesperson for the Shiv Sena faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, invited Ajit to join the faction Sunday. Shivtare, who is on a tour of Baramati and other parts of western Maharashtra, said in Pune that the former Maharashtra deputy chief minister was restless in the NCP.

“Ajit Pawar is not a small leader. He is the only person who works in the NCP. Everyone else is a gang of bandits. He did all the work during the MVA government when the head of the state (Uddhav Thackeray) was sitting at home. He is in the wrong party. I am waiting for Pawar to leave the party. The BJP is a national party while the Shiv Sena is a regional party. If he comes to the Shiv Sena, we would be very happy. In fact, we welcome him to the Shiv Sena. If he comes there will be a major change in Maharashtra politics,” Shivtare said.

Earlier, Union minister Ramdas Athawale had offered Ajit Pawar the post of chief minister if he joined the BJP.

Speaking about Ajit joining hands with the BJP in 2019 and his swearing-in, Shivtare said the NCP leader had taken the step on his own and not after someone instructed him. “I don’t believe that he joined hands with the BJP and came back because someone told him to do so. He went there because what was going on in the NCP was not right and he was restless.” He added that nobody would like it if Ajit joins the BJP.

Meanwhile, state minister and Shinde Sena leader Gulabrao Patil also hinted at the possibility of Ajit joining the Sena-BJP alliance. “Many MLAs are with Ajit Pawar. He is the real NCP. There is a right time for everything,” Patil said.
