Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni confirmed that the complaint was registered on Monday. “We have charged the accused under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) under the IPC,” Kulkarni said.

Virendra Mishra, deputy commissioner of police (zone VIII), said, “There are three incidents cited by the complainant —- January 2014, September 2014 and March 2015. In two of the incidents, the complainant has alleged that lewd comments were passed by the accused and that he also touched her inappropriately on one of the three occasions. We are verifying the allegations.”

A spokesperson with MIAL said the complainant and the accused worked in the “in-line security department of MIAL (which deals with security of luggage at the airport) but the complainant did not directly report to the accused”.

“In this particular matter, no complaint has been lodged with the internal complaint committee. In case of alleged sexual harassment, the woman should file a complaint with the committee immediately and the committee will take immediate and appropriate action. MIAL has a zero tolerance policy towards sexual harassment of women at work,” the spokesperson said Kulkarni added that the accused has received interim relief from a local court in the matter and has not been arrested.
