Airline employee, 5 others held for smuggling gold worth Rs 4.51 cr

An international gold smuggling syndicate was busted and six people, including an airline employee, were arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intellig-ence (DRI) in Mumbai on Sunday.

According to officials, 7.4 kilograms of smuggled gold worth Rs 4.51 crore was seized from the accused.

The syndicate was smuggling gold from Dubai to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, they said.

According to DRI sources, the passenger was supposed to travel by air and reach Mumbai. Then the passenger would place the gold on his seat and leave. The gold was then smuggled out of Mumbai airport with the help of an airline employee.
