The Maharashtra Government has decided that the admission process for all first year junior classes (FYJC) will henceforth be conducted online. Students seeking admission to First Year Junior College (FYJC – Class 11) anywhere in Maharashtra will now have to register online. Candidates will be charged an application fee of Rs 100. Since it will be a centralised process, each candidate will have to give a minimum of one and a maximum of 10 preferences of colleges where they seek admission. Previously students seeking admissions in Junior colleges would have to physically visit the respective colleges and submit application forms.
Until now, the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for FYJC was limited to Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune-Pimpri Chinchwad, Nagpur, Nashik, and Amravati. Earlier this year in March it was declared that the online CAP will be extended across Maharashtra.
Even as Secondary School Certificate (SSC) results are awaited, the Maharashtra government has laid out a detailed process for FYJC admissions given it is completely online for the first time in the state. A formal set of guidelines have been issued in this regard by the school education department via a Government Resolution (GR) which adds that the decision to extend the centralised online system for FYJC admissions to the entire state was taken to ensure uniformity and transparency in the process.
“Since this will be the first year of online admissions for FYJC across the state, it was important to issue a formal set of guidelines in advance. Additionally workshops are being conducted for colleges in interiors of Maharashtra and other cities where there was no online CAP until now for FYJC admissions,” said an official from the school education department.
According to the guidelines, the first phase of the CAP process will begin on May 19, which entails candidates registering with their details, including marks obtained in Class 10. In the next phase, students have to provide college options in order of their preference, following which seats will be allotted based on merit.
If a student secures a seat in their first preferred college during the regular rounds but fails to confirm it, they will be barred from participating in subsequent regular admission rounds. After four regular rounds of admissions, there will be a special round, an “Open for All” round, a new feature introduced this year. “It will be like on the spot admissions but online,” said the official. “In this round, vacant seats in colleges will be displayed online for students to apply immediately within a specified time frame. If more students apply than seats available, a merit-based allotment will be conducted. If fewer students apply, all applicants will be granted admission,” said the official.
