Campus Talk: Admission to master’s in architecture in Maharashtra will now be based on national level entrance test PGETA

The circular stated that the number of candidates appearing for the state-level MArch entrance test is relatively low, so the CET Cell has decided to consider the PGETA score for MArch admissions in Maharashtra instead of conducting a separate entrance test.

Even as the PGETA was introduced this academic year, MArch admissions in the state were conducted based on the traditional practice of a state-level entrance test for the academic year 2024-25. However, the new change will be applicable from the next academic year as the Maharashtra CET Cell has decided to discontinue the state-level M Arch entrance exam.

According to the website of Maharashtra CET Cell, close to 600 seats were available for admission to M Arch in Maharashtra last year. “Instead of conducting a separate entrance test for these candidates, it is convenient to consider their scores from PGETA, a national-level entrance exam, for admissions,” said an official from the Maharashtra CET Cell while also emphasising that the move is expected to reduce the burden on aspiring architects.

He said, “This also relieves students from appearing for two separate entrance exams. Furthermore, a national-level common entrance exam broadens their opportunities of seeking admissions to the colleges of their choice across the country.”
