Asking the Central Bureau of Investigation to look into allegations about the involvement of Union ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushilkumar Shinde in the Adarsh Housing Society scam without any bias, the Bombay High Court directed the CBI on Wednesday to submit a progress report by next week to show efforts are being made to probe all those linked to the scandal, irrespective of who they are.
Union Minister for Rural Development Deshmukh and Union Power Minister Shinde were Chief Ministers of Maharashtra when the files related to the high-rise Adarsh were processed by them.
A Division Bench of Justices Ranjana Desai and R G Ketkar, while hearing a bunch of petitions related to the scam, included another petition filed by Adarsh Society challenging the demolition order and activist Simpreet Singhs petition seeking monitoring of the probe by the court.
Singhs petition states that the CBI was pursuing only a select few,but main players such as Deshmukh and Shinde have not been named in its FIR. The CBI should make efforts to look into the involvement of everybody concerned, irrespective of who he is and what position he holds. CBI,before filing its progress report next week, should clear these allegations, Justice Desai said. In defence of the CBI,Additional Solicitor-General Darius Khambatta, told court that the agency had already taken all documents and material regarding Deshmukh and Shinde, obtained by Simpreet Singh. We are following it up. The agency is conducting the probe on a war-footing. We will submit a progress report by next Wednesday, Khambatta said.
In another petition, former journalist Ketan Tirodkar submitted an affidavit alleging that Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is also involved in the scam. Tirodkar claimed that two Pune-based members of Adarsh Society had,in the verification form, given the same address as the one given by Pawars wife Sunetra,in an application before a civil court in Pune in 2009.
Ajit Pawars wife,Sunetra,in an application before a civil court in a property dispute had given her residential address as Jijai,Yashwant Ghatgenagar Society,University Road,Pune. The same address has been given by two members of Adarsh society Jayshree Bhosale and Nivruti Ganpati Bhosale in an undertaking, the affidavit reads.
The court directed the CBI to look into this aspect too,and clear the air.
