THREE YEARS after two sadhus were lynched in Palghar, which led to the suspension of two policemen, local police rescued two more sadhus from a similar fate without any untoward incident.  The two sadhus visiting Palghar were also suspected to be child stealers.

In 2020, two sadhus suspected to be child stealers were lynched by locals leading to the arrest of more than 100 persons.

Palghar Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil said that on Sunday at about 11 am, the two sadhus Bapunath Shegar (44) and Premnath Shegar (40) were headed to Chandran Nagar in Shivon village of Palghar to seek alms.

When they reached Vanai village, the locals, suspecting them to be child stealers, surrounded them with an aggressive stance. However, a local Hareshwar Ghute immediately alerted Vangaon police, who brought the sadhus to the police station.

Upon enquiry, the police found that the duo from Gujarat were from Nath Jogi community and sought alms for a living.

Under the initiative ‘Ek Gaon, Ek Police’, a policeman has been assigned to each village in Palghar to resolve villagers’ issues.
