A 20-year-old man allegedly died by suicide on Wednesday afternoon by hanging himself at his residence in Bandra (west).

The deceased, identified as Mohammad Asif Khan, stayed in Bandra (west) with his mother, brother and sister.

According to the police, Khan had suffered a major fracture in his leg a few months ago. He had undergone a surgery and was staying home. On Wednesday afternoon, when Khan did not pick up his mother’s call, she suspected foul play and informed her other son, who was in college. He rushed home and found the door locked from inside. Soon after he informed police, a team from Bandra police station reached the spot. They broke open the door and found Khan hanging in his room.

Khan’s mother alleged that if her son was immediately pulled down and rushed to the hospital, there was a chance that he could have survived. However, the police denied the allegation. “A police team rushed to the spot soon after getting information. Without any delay, the man was rushed to Bhabha hospital where he was declared dead. Police have not found any suicide note and will record the statement of the family members,” said a police officer from Bandra police station.

The Bandra police have registered an accidental death report and are investigating the case from all possible angles.
