Two persons were arrested Wednesday for allegedly robbing a jewellery store in Ghatkopar in suburban Mumbai. The two accused, one armed with a chopper and the other with a gun, allegedly stole ornaments worth Rs 3 lakh, said the store owner, who sustained injuries on his neck from the chopper while attempting to prevent the assailants from escaping.
According to a source, a third suspect was on guard outside the shop. As soon as people began to chase them, the two suspects rode away on the bike while the third fled on foot, said the police, adding that they are searching for the third accused.
As per the police, the incident took place around 10.30 am on Wednesday at Darshan Jewellers in Ghatkopar (West).
Rakesh Ola, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7), said, “It was a robbery. We have registered an FIR in the matter.”
The complainant told the police that he had opened his store and was cleaning it when the two men entered.
According to the complaint, one of them allegedly kept a chopper on his neck while the other carried a gun. The accused began taking the jewellery trays and was about to leave when the complainant attempted to stop them.
The accused allegedly attacked the complainant on the neck with the chopper.
In the chaos, the accused dropped some trays in the shop and some others outside as local residents who had gathered began to chase them, said the police.
The injured store owner was admitted to hospital.
