Two teachers of a playschool in Kandivali have been booked by the Mumbai Police for allegedly brutally assaulting and ill-treating children in their care.

On the basis of CCTV footage of the classroom, parents, in their complaint to the police, have alleged that the accused teachers would pinch the children on their cheeks, slap them repeatedly, hit them on their heads with books, pick them up and throw them on the floor and also dragged them on the floor.

The police said that, going by the CCTV footage, the children were assaulted by the teachers over a period of three months between January 1 and March 27 this year. The police, however, added that they were probing if the accused teachers also ill-treated and assaulted the children even before that.

The father of a two-year-old boy, in his complaint to the police, said the playschool started in September 2022. “There are around 28 children who attend the playschool. My son has been attending it since it started,” he said in the complaint.

The 35-year-old father further said that he noticed a vast behavioral change in his son, who had become aggressive and also started hitting people in their house. Worried, he then enquired with the parents of other children attending the playschool.

“They too told me that they had noticed changes in their children’s behaviour, who had become aggressive at home,” the boy’s father said in the complaint.

The parents then came together and took up the issue with the two owners of the playschool. They were initially told that some of the children may have indulged in “some wrong activity” due to which their behaviour may have changed. But when the owners checked the CCTV footage, the horror came to light.
