Making amendments to the State Pre-Natal Diagnostic Tests (PNDT) Act,the State Health Department has increased the registration charges for new centres and also for all those who have to get their licence renewal done.
The charges for the registration of ultrasound centres, genetic counselling centres, genetic labs, genetic clinics etc have been increased from the existing Rs 3,000 to Rs 25,000.
The license of already registered centres need to be renewed once in five years. In addition to this, the ultrasound centres existing in the hospitals and nursing homes will now have to pay Rs 3,5000 against Rs 4,000 as the registration fee for five years.
Confirming the development,Director (Family Health and Welfare) Dr Karamjit Singh said,The charges are for all the new centres which will apply for registration and also for all those who will apply before the department for renewing the license.
In addition to this, the department has also made an amendment to the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Tests Act that a sonologist cannot work at more than two centres within one district.
Dr Singh said,We had made this guideline as per the state advisory boards recommendation even earlier as well. But now it has become a part of the Act. We had received data of many doctors who had been found working in more than five ultrasound centres within the district, which is practically not possible. So we have tried to curb this practice by amending the Act.
The amendments have been enforced with immediate effect.
