Surjeet Singh alias Sodhi Ram,a prisoner booked in multiple cases,on Tuesday ran away from Phillaur court complex by breaking iron grills in the waiting area of the court complex. He was brought from Kapurthala Jail for a hearing in a rape case while he had been booked under the NDPS Act as well.
Apart from this,Rs 24 lakh had been recovered from him from Noormahal area,said DSP Sarabjeet Rai.
Surjeet was made to sit in the waiting area of the court complex. Waiting for his turn in the court hearing,he broke the iron grills and quickly jumped out to run from the other side where there was no police force,said Rai.
Interestingly,the iron grills had already been loosened by some insider so as to help him escape.
The DSP said that the police team was investigating that angle as well. It seems that his escape plan was prepared well. We are investigating all angles as to who all helped him, he added.
