Multipurpose health workers working under the National Rural Health Mission scheme have lifted their dharna after having a meeting with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal this morning.

Multipurpose health workers working under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scheme have lifted their dharna after having a meeting with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal this morning.

More than 2,300 health workers on contract were on a long strike, demanding that they be placed on the regular rolls.

However, earlier the Government displayed a dilly-dallying attitude and CM Badal has now assured the workers of some positive action.

He has called them again after a week when the state health secretary will be present at the meeting. Karamjit Kaur, president of the union, said,

“Today the health secretary was away at Delhi for a meeting and the Chief Minister said that he will be present at the meeting next week where they will work out all the modalities to regularise the staff.”

According to the employees, nearly 1,000 posts are lying vacant in different offices and at least those posts should be filled.

The Chief Minister said that they have provisions to fill those posts but he postponed the meeting for next week. Karamjit said,“Now we have decided to lift the dharna because the Chief Minister has given a positive response.”
