Senior Shiromani Akali Dal-Badal (SAD)-B leader Maheshinder Singh Grewal has been appointed advisor to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. He will get Cabinet rank.
Grewal,a one time loyalist of the late Gurcharan Singh Tohra and now a Badal loyalist, has been rewarded for the service and sacrifices that he has made for the party over the years.
In the last Vidhan Sabha elections,Grewal was tipped to contest on a SAD(B) ticket from the Ludhiana West seat after Harish Rai Dhanda resigned as MLA following his appointed as PPSC head.
That, however could not materialise as the Punjab and Haryana High Court stuck down the appointment.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),the SAD-Bs ally in the state government, that demanded that this seat be handed over to them, which Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal agreed to. The BJP,however, lost in the seat to the Congress.
Grewal, who had been working in the area to better his chances in the elections, was left high and dry. At last, the reward for his sacrifices now seems to have come through.
For now,Grewal is tipped to contest the parliamentary elections from Ludhiana, which are due in 2014.
Speaking to Newsline,he said,While I thank the CM for vesting so much trust in me,my main task will be to ensure that the poll promises that the SAD-B made to the people of Punjab are executed in reality. I will work to ensure that the duty entrusted to me by the Chief Minister is fulfilled and that there is no lapse in the policies set by the CM for the state of Punjab.
