Despite sale offers, branded stores face market blues

Big stores in the city are finding it hard to attract customers in this summer-cum-monsoon sale bonanza.

Big stores in the city are finding it hard to attract customers in this summer-cum-monsoon sale bonanza. Hardly a customer or two could be seen roaming around the shopping malls and showrooms. Big brand showrooms like Levis,Westside,Catmoss,Oyo,Lilliput and others have already declared sale on their stocks. But even the superb advertising strategies are proving fruitless this season.

Rajesh Goyal, owner of Chubby Hubby,a prominent kids store, and Kazma,a showroom for women’s western wear, said,“Inflation has hit the daily sales hard. Due to basic necessities getting so expensive, people think twice before purchasing a garment.”

Slump in the market has also forced big players to declare their sale offers earlier than expected. With major stores trying to lure customers in the first week of July itself,it is clear they want to get rid of the summer stock as soon as possible.

Pawan Jadwanshi, assistant store manager of the famous store Big Bazaar, said,“Due to the current slump,we are introducing many exclusive offers, especially for household items.” On being asked if Big Bazaar was facing any disadvantage of its location,as it far away from the city,he said it was actually an advantage,as people went there to relax, away from the main city.

Atul Mathrue, manager of the chain store Globus, said,“We are still waiting for the customer response and may start with the sale offers in the next few days. With enough of the stock left, the discount may go up to 70 per cent.”
