Deep Malhotra boards removed, installation of CCTVs ordered

Acting on the reports of billboards being put up by Faridkot SAD candidate Deep Malhotra atop his liquor vends, the Election Commission has ordered the immediate removal of all such boards.

Acting on the reports of billboards being put up by Faridkot SAD candidate Deep Malhotra atop his liquor vends, the Election Commission (EC) has ordered the immediate removal of all such boards.

It has also ordered the candidate to install close circuit television (CCTV) cameras in his distillery and record all movement of the liquor stock. Moreover, the excise department has ordered that no person should be given more than two bottles of liquor.

Malhotra owns a around a dozen liquor vends in Faridkot district alone. The Congress had expressed apprehensions that he could use liquor as a tool to influence the voters and wanted the EC to look into the issue.

Dhillon, however, denied all allegations. “These allegations are false. We are not distributing any liquor. My party is trying to save the youth of Punjab from addiction. Why will I work against my own party? Selling liquor is my family business and not a way to enter politics or the Vidhan Sabha.”

Meanwhile,in a bid to capture lost ground, the SAD has re-inducted two of its local leaders — Gurshvinder Singh and Rajvinder Singh — into the party. These leaders, who had been shown the door by Deputy Chief Minisiter Sukhbir Singh Badal for anti-party activities, enjoy considerable support in the city as well as rural areas of Faridkot.

Malhotra, who is being seen as a parachute candidate by local SAD leaders, faces considerable dissidence in the area. Along with wooing the voters,Malhotra is thus trying to woo the dissidents as well.

JALANDHAR: To ensure complete enforcement of the model code of conduct, government school heads have been told to protect the walls of their schools from being defaced by political parties during the election campaign. If they fail to do so,they will face action.

According to the Election Commission instructions,if any political party defaces the walls and buildings of the government schools by pasting their posters or writing slogans, then it would be the duty of the principal or the headmaster concerned to get these removed before the opening of the schools in the morning.

The District Education Officers (DEOs) have passed on these instructions to the heads of the schools in their areas. These heads are required to submit a daily report to the election authorities on the removal of posters or other material.

DEO Neelam Kumari said they were getting the poll material removed on a regular basis from the walls of the government schools and sending a daily report.
