City’s leading architects Ranjodh Singh and Zafar Choudhary,of Habitat Architects, have alleged harassment at the hands of officials of the Service Tax department.

Ranjodh Singh claims,“We are one of highest tax payers and have paid close to Rs 20 lakh as service tax. But our office and residential premises were raided and service tax officials kept pestering us with questions which had nothing to do with service tax or our work.”

Singh adds,“It is just a way to harass us as some of these officials want us to design their homes for free. We have done this in the past a number of times and have not problem doing the same again but they should approach us directly rather than resorting to this kind of arm-twisting tactics.”

The company is planning to lodge an FIR against the officials.

Choudhary adds,“It seems due to some personal vendetta, false information was provided to higher-ups as no computers were confiscated by the department. A few officials in the department are trying to arm twist firms to either get their personal residences designed. The firm has already designed the home of a deputy commissioner.”

Despite repeated attempts, service tax officials were not available for comments.
