Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun have launched a search for former MLA Ram Prasad Ahirwar (84), who has been booked in connection with the murder of his employee and is on the run.
Police earlier arrested four people on August 15 — including Ram Prasad’s son, former BSP MLA Ajay Singh alias Pankaj (54), and his grandson, Aman Singh alias Mikki (25) — for the crime.
Police announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on Friday for information leading to Prasad’s arrest.
The incident came to light on August 9, when unidentified persons allegedly dumped a body outside a Community Health Centre (CHC) in Jalaun. Before fleeing the spot, police said, the men — who had arrived in a car — told the hospital staff that the person had been injured in an incident.
Police said the victim was later identified as Jitendra Ahirwar (46) — an employee of Prasad — who was allegedly beaten to death.
Police said the victim’s son, Nitin, filed a complaint. He alleged that Ram Prasad had summoned his father to his residence. There, he was allegedly brutally assaulted by the other accused, which led to his death.
Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR against five people — including Ram Prasad, his son, and his grandson.
Circle Officer (Jalaun) Parmeshwar Prasad said the crime involved three generations of the same family. He said a preliminary inquiry revealed that Jitendra was in charge of managing an Inter-College run by the family. He had allegedly been sharing information about the activities of Ram Prasad’s son and grandson with him, prompting him to scold them — something that reportedly angered the two accused.
During questioning, police said, Aman claimed that Jitendra had come into contact with his grandfather and soon gained his confidence. Ram Prasad eventually entrusted Jitendra with the keys to the main gate of the Inter-College.
On August 9, Jitendra was called to the house. The accused claimed they initially intended to “explain things” to him. However, when Jitendra refused to comply even after repeated persuasion, Aman and his associates allegedly thrashed him. They later forced him into a vehicle and took him to a closed petrol pump they owned.
There, police said, they allegedly brutally assaulted him again, leaving him with grievous injuries, and dumped him outside the CHC.
Police said Ram Prasad was not at the petrol pump.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Jalaun, Pradeep Kumar, said after evidence indicated Ram Prasad’s involvement in the murder case, a reward was announced for his arrest. He said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the remaining accused.
A police officer said a reward has also been declared for another accused, Amit Balmki, who’s on the run.
Police have lodged the case under BNS sections 191(2), 103(1), 352, 351(2), and 61(2)(a).
Ajay had won the 2007 Assembly election on a BSP ticket from the Konch assembly seat.
