The Uttar Pradesh Police have attached and sealed the house of slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed’s sister in Meerut’s Bhawani Nagar locality in connection with the murder of lawyer Umesh Pal and his two police guards in Prayagraj on February 24.
Atiq’s sister Ayesha Noori and now-jailed brother-in-law Dr Akhlaq Ahmed have been named as co-accused in the sensational murder case.
“A team led by Prayagraj Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Varun Kumar had pasted an attachment notice at the house on August 19, directing Ayesha, who is absconding, to surrender in court within 20 days. But since she remained elusive, the attachment process was carried out,” said Subodh Saxena, in-charge of Meerut’s Nauchandi police station. The police have also recovered some belongings from
the house.
“The seized belongings worth Rs 80,000 have been kept in the Nauchandi police station. A neighbour has been entrusted with the responsibility of immediately giving information to the area police station if they find any suspected movement in the house,” said Saxena.
The Special Task Force (STF) had arrested Ahmed, a doctor in a government hospital in Meerut district, from his residence in Meerut on April 2. He was terminated from service soon after his arrest.
The STF had linked Dr Ahmed and Noori to the Umesh Pal murder case after they found a car allegedly belonging to Ahmed abandoned on the outskirts of Prayagraj on March 6.
They later arrested the couple’s domestic help Shahrukh who purportedly revealed that the two had given shelter to Atiq’s son Asad and his associate Guddu Muslim at their Meerut residence on February 25.
Asad and Muslim were later killed in an encounter by the STF in Jhansi.
Soon after Dr Ahmed’s arrest, Noori and their two daughters went missing, the police said.
