Minor girl kills father, attacks brother over family dispute in UP’s Kannauj, detained along with her 17-year-old male friend

A police officer privy to the investigation said, “On Wednesday, we produced the boy and the girl before the Juvenile Justice Board. They have been charged with murder and criminal conspiracy.”

The initial probe

The police said during the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the girl harboured resentment towards her 19-year-old elder brother and had developed animosity toward him. The police added that the girl was reportedly upset with her parents as they seemed to favour her brother.

“The girl wanted to kill her elder brother but she knew she would not be able to overpower him. Therefore, she arranged the sedatives from her male friend to ensure that her family members are in deep sleep when she attacks her brother,” the police officer said.

Recreating the crime scene

During investigation, the police found out that the girl’s father, who was a heavy drinker, and her mother, slept in separate rooms. The two daughters, including the accused, slept in their mother’s room, while the girl’s brother slept in a different room.

According to the officer, the girl first entered her father’s room and killed him by slitting his throat with a sharp-edged weapon. “She targeted her father first to ensure he is not able to intervene when she kills her brother. Later, she proceeded to her brother’s room and attacked him with the same weapon. However, her brother woke up and managed to overpower her and raise an alarm for help,” the police officer said.

The other family members caught the accused and somehow managed to rush the victims to the hospital. While the father was declared dead upon arrival, the brother was treated for the injuries on his face and hands.

The police were informed on Tuesday morning, following which the girl and her male friend were detained. The girl’s father was a village development officer, the police said.
