The 35-year-old driver of former BSP MP Gorakh Prasad Jaiswal was allegedly shot dead by his private gunner in Barhaj town of Deoria district, police said Friday.
Mohammad Yasin was allegedly killed by Gautam Singh, 36, after the former tried yo intervene in an argument between the gunner, the former MP and his other staff Thursday night.
Singh, who had escaped from the spot, was later arrested by the police.

Deoria additional SP Ruchita Chaudhary said Singh, a resident of Gagha town in Gorakhpur, was drunk at the time of the incident and had quarrelled with other workers at Jaiswal’s house.
She said Singh asked the former MP’s manager to clear all his dues of last five to six months when he had been working there, and relieve him. As the manager sought time, Singh started arguing with him.
According to Chaudhary, the manager called Jaiswal and he also tried to placate the gunner but Singh who was armed, did not listen to him.
At this time, Yasin intervened to stop the quarrel. Chaudhary said Yasin tried to take the gun from Singh, leading to a minor physical scuffle. Singh then fired and the bullet hit Yasin in his chest, the ASP said, leading to his death at the spot.
Yasin had been working there for nearly a month.
Singh then fired in the air before some people present there snatched the gun. He then fled from the place but was later caught by the police.
Barhaj station officer Parmashankar Yadav said Singh was carrying the rifle of Murli Manohar Jaiswal, grandson of the ex-MP. Jaiswal’s son Ram Prasad is a former BSP MLA and an accused in the NRHM scam.
