BJP members protest leaders’ arrest on way to Tanda

As soon the House assembled,BJP members stood up and raised the issue.

Terming it an “emergency-like situation” in the state,Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members protested against the arrest of party legislators and general secretary Pankaj Singh when they were going to Tanda on Saturday,to meet the family members of slain Hindu Yuva Vahini leader Rambabu Gupta.

BJP’s legislators Lokendra Singh and Suresh Rana, along with Pankaj, who is also the son of BJP national president Rajnath Singh, were stopped at Amhat crossing in Sultanpur and arrested.

As soon the House assembled,BJP members stood up and raised the issue. “The situation is like emergency days. Now our constitutional right to go anywhere in the state is not safe. Our legislators are being arrested. They were peacefully going to offer their condolences to the bereaved Gupta family in Tanda,” party leader Hukum Singh said.

Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey pacified them with an assurance that the issue could be raised during zero hour.

During zero hour,Hukum Singh said the state government should explain the reasons behind the restrictions imposed on the movement of BJP legislators and Pankaj.

“They had barely reached Sultanpur when they were stopped, dragged and arrested. They were boarded in a bus. These leaders were going to Tanda when curfew restrictions had been lifted. Still, they suffered misbehaviour,” Hukum Singh added.

The BJP leader also said that no one else had been stopped from going anywhere. “There is one Imam of Jama Masjid whose speech flare up passions resulting in riots. But he can go anywhere he wants. Another vice-president of a political party too is free to move. Then why all restrictions are on us only?” he asked.

In his reply,Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Azam Khan said the state government had no intention to stop anyone. “We will surely look into the complaint. Action will be taken if anything wrong has been done. Every legislator is free to go anywhere in the state,” he remarked.
