7 teens held over ‘objectionable’ slogans during Muharram march

THE AMETHI police have detained seven teenaged boys for allegedly raising “objectionable” slogans during a Muharram procession on Sunday, police said on Monday. Police said a video of the boys purportedly raising the slogans surfaced online.

“The boys are aged between 15 and 17 years. Their identities were ascertained through the video. They will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board,” said a police occifer.

He added that a search was on for four more boys, who are also seen in the video.

A Muharram procession was taken out in the area on Sunday. Around two hours later, a video surfaced online.

Taking cognizance of the matter, a case was registered under BNS section 302 (intentionally uttering words to deliberately wound the religious sentiments of another person) and 353 (2) (Whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement or report containing false information, rumour or alarming news, including through electronic means, with intent to create or promote, or which is likely to create or promote, on grounds of religion, race, place) at the police station concerned.
