Yashwant punctures Modi theory: ‘No state model ideal for nation’

Sinha said even Nitish Kumar’s model of development in Bihar was good but cannot withstand the nation’s development needs.

In a statement that may ruffle some feathers in the BJP,which has been hardselling the Gujarat model of development, senior leader and former finance minister Yashwant Sinha Thursday said no state model was ideal for the nation’s growth.

“The Gujarat model cannot be model for development of a nation because there are so many things that concern the country. There are issues like foreign exchange, foreign trade and banking interest rates, which pertain to the Centre only,”Sinha said at an interactive session on ‘How to make growth durable’ organised by Bharat Chamber of Commerce here.

He said even Nitish Kumar’s model of development in Bihar was good but cannot withstand the nation’s development needs.

Sinha was responding to a query on whether it was the Gujarat model or the Bihar model, which was good to replicate at the national level.

Meanwhile, while criticising the Centre for its abject failure in controlling inflation,Sinha said,“The government has left it to RBI,which is taking measures to control interest rates. But it will not produce any long-term results.”

The senior BJP leader, who is also chairman of the parliamentary committee on finance, said, also flayed the central government’s “faulty economic policies.”

“We are spending so much money on coal import but the fact is we have a huge coal reserve, which should have been explored,” Sinha said.
