Journalists heckled as Chandra Bose kicks off campaign from Netaji Bhavan

Bose was talking to reporters near Netaji Bhavan on Elgin Road, from where he was supposed to kick off his campaign after offering homage to Netaji’s bust there. Soon after, some BJP party workers came and tried to take him away to his car. When reporters insisted that he reply to the questions, BJP workers engaged in a verbal duel with them, following which they began to heckle some reporters and photographers. As the scenario seemed to go out of hand, some other party workers came to the journalists and apologised.

Earlier, while talking to reporters, Bose said he was not fighting the elections against any individual. “It is a fight against the unfulfilled promises and tall claims made to people. People had been promised the moon but they can see now how much work has been done by the ruling TMC,” Bose said.

Bose further said that similar to Netaji who was against dividing the state, it was time the BJP was given an opportunity to stop the state from being split on the basis of religion under the present regime. “Netaji was a liberator. I would be happy if I can do a fraction of what he did, according to my capabilities,” he said.

The BJP leader alleged that under the TMC government, the sectors of health, education and industries have seen decline. “We were tired of the 34 years of misrule of the Left and then the people brought about a change in the form of Trinamool, but that too proved to be futile as the state has gone from bad to worse. We need to vote for the BJP government to make progress in the state and to take it even ahead of Gujarat and make Kolkata a model city,” he said.
