TV actor dies in road accident

Bengali TV actress Suchandra Dasgupta was killed when a two-wheeler she was riding pillion was allegedly hit by a lorry near Ghoshpara of North 24 Parganas district’s Baranagar area on Saturday night.

Dasgupta, a resident of Panihati in the district, was returning home when the accident took place on BT Road. Traffic on the stretch was disrupted for some time but was resumed after police reached the spot.

“The actress was returning after shooting for a serial. She died on the spot,” said a senior police official.

According to eyewitnesses, a bicycle came in front of the bike she was riding at a traffic signal near the Baranagar junction.

The actress was wearing a helmet but to no avail.

Suchandra acted in several serials such as Gauri Elo.

Actor Biswaroop Banerjee said, “Suchandra worked with us recently. I didn’t have much interaction with her but came across as a very calm person.”
