Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal on Friday said the vandalism at R G Kar Medical College & Hospital on Wednesday night happened mainly due to “spontaneous huge gathering” although arrangements had been made to maintain law and order. “If you say it is a failure of assessment… then yes, you can call it a failure of assessment,” Goyal told mediapersons.

“We had made arrangements to maintain law and order. When a spontaneous crowd comes, it is difficult as they have no leader… We didn’t expect the crowd that gathered at the hospital to turn violent. Some of the miscreants were picked up after feedback from netizens…,” he said.
