Silda attack mastermind in police custody

Shyam Charan Tudu,the alleged mastermind of attack on Silda paramilitary camp which left 24 personnel dead,was remanded to 12 days in police custody by a local court here on Thursday.

Jhargram:Shyam Charan Tudu,the alleged mastermind of attack on Silda paramilitary camp which left 24 personnel dead,was remanded to 12 days in police custody by a local court here on Thursday. Tudu (26),who was arrested on April 6 in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu was produced before the Jhargram court following his transit remand from a court in Tamil Nadu. Superintendent of Police (Jhargram) Bharati Ghosh said,“Tudu is a member of Maoist squad led by Jayanta and has been accused of murder,sedition,arson among several other crimes.”

Elephant tramples student to death

Jalpaiguri:A student of class X was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants in Bamundanga tea gardens in Jalpaiguri district on late Wednesday night. Officials of Diana Forest Range said 16-year-old Uttam Oraon died on the spot as elephants of the herd went on a rampage in inhabited areas of the tea gardens. Angry tea garden workers blocked road and stopped forest officials from visiting the area demanding compensation and adequate measures to prevent wild animals from straying into the area.
