Sedition charges dropped against Chhatradhar Mahato

A fast-track court on Thursday dropped the sedition charge against former PCAPA chief Chhatradhar Mahato,but he will remain behind bars in 31 other cases that are still pending.

A fast-track court on Thursday dropped the sedition charge against former PCAPA chief Chhatradhar Mahato,but he will remain behind bars in 31 other cases that are still pending.The additional sessions judge in West Midnapore district dropped the sedition charge against Mahato for lack of evidence.

Mahato had founded the PCPA after alleged police atrocities following the November 2,2008 bomb blast targeting the convoy of former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s when he was returning from Salboni.

The particular case dealt with September 19,2009 incident when police raided his house allegedly holding meeting with Maoist leaders.
