Saradha Scam: ED grills wife of former Assam minister

Riniki Sarma was grilled by the Enforcement Directorate in Kolkata.

Riniki Sarma, wife of former Assam minister Himanshu Sarma, was on Tuesday grilled by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Kolkata in connection with the Saradha scam case.

Sarma was questioned on the business deals, which she had entered into with Saradha Group chairman Sudipta Sen and was asked to submit details of the transactions, an ED official told PTI.

“She owned some TV channels in the northeast and had taken money from Saradha group to air its advertisements… The ED wants to verify whether money was paid by Saradha group without actually airing those advertisements in its entirety or not,” he added. Sarma was also questioned by the CBI earlier, also probing the Saradha scam.

Meanwhile, the Special Crime Branch of CBI probing the Saradha scam is likely to file a supplementary chargesheet by this week.

“We are going to file the supplementary chargesheet in the Saradha Realty case at Alipur Court by this week,” a CBI source said. The chargesheet will include names of state Transport Minister Madan Mitra, former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Srinjoy Bose — currently out on bail — and suspended TMC MP Kunal Ghosh among others.

The source said the supplementary chargesheet will contain names of influential persons who had been the main conspirators in the scam. Mitra, now under judicial custody, had moved a bail petition in the Calcutta High Court, the hearing of which is yet to take place.

Earlier, the agency had filed chargesheets against the other accused in the Saradha scam — namely Sudipto Sen, Debjani Mukherjee, Rajat Mazumdar (out on bail), Sadanand

Meanwhile, ED sources said it will also file its chargesheet once the CBI files its supplementary chargesheet.
