Protect Priyamvada Birla’s assets: HC to administrators

The Calcutta High Court today directed the administrators of the entire estate of Priyamvada Devi Birla,the late wife of M P Birla,to protect her assets.

The Calcutta High Court today directed the administrators of the entire estate of Priyamvada Devi Birla,the late wife of M P Birla,to protect her assets.

The administrators headed by former Justice of the Supreme Court C K Thakkar,appointed by the high court,will administer the companies and estates of M P Birla with the power and rights vested in Priyamvada,who passed away in 2004.

Priyamvada had given her property to R S Lodha by a ‘will’,which was challenged in the court by the Birla families. The legal battle between the Birlas and Lodha had reached Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court.

R S Lodha passed away in October 2008. His son Harshvardhan Lodha subsequently appeared in the legal battle. In 1990,M P Birla passed away. In April 1999,Priyamvada prepared a will and gave the property to R S Lodha,a chartered accountant. She had no child,either natural or adopted.
