A PIL was filed in the Calcutta High Court on Monday, seeking immediate disqualification of Bayron Biswas from the state Assembly membership following his defection to the ruling TMC.

Biswas, who won the Assembly bypoll in March from Sagardighi seat in Murshidabad on a Congress ticket, recently joined the TMC.

The PIL was filed by senior counsel Shoumya Shubhra Roy before the Division Bench headed by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam.

On June 1, Roy sent letters to Assembly Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay and the Chief Election Commissioner, seeking disqualification of Biswas. After not receiving any response, he filed the PIL. The matter is likely to come up for hearing next week.
