Debunking the presence of “Modi wave” in the state, former CM and CPM politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Friday said it was just a publicity stunt of corporates. “It is frightening. Growth must be inclusive and must not flow from top to bottom. There is no Modi wave in Bengal. However, some corporates are trying to influence the media. The whole thing is a corporate-driven publicity drive,” said Bhattacharjee. He was speaking to the journalists at an interactive session. According to Bhattacharjee, a few corporate houses are trying to influence the media to create “Modi wave”.
“The idea behind promoting Modi is to maximise profit by creating a rosy picture of development. This is an attempt to create brash capitalism in which the rich becomes richer. This coming together of corporates and the RSS is a dangerous trend.”
Refusing to go into an alliance with the Congress, Bhattacharjee said: “We will not enter into an alliance with the Congress. We want to defeat them and stop the BJP from coming to power.” Reiterating the need for a Third Front at the Centre, he said both the Congress and the BJP-led governments should be kept at bay in national interest.
“We are in discussion with 11 parties. The idea is to stitch a Third Front that will work on some common agenda such as distribution of land to the poor, minimum wages of Rs 10,000 for labours and a minimum pension of Rs 4,000 for the retired, increased budget for education and health and to oppose FDI,” he added.
