With a low-pressure area forming over the central-western Bay of Bengal on Wednesday, large parts of West Bengal are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall in the next two or three days, the Met office said on Tuesday.
The Met also warned of the possibility of landslides in Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts.
The rainfall is expected to intensify on Wednesday and Thursday, in Paschim Bardhaman, Paschim Medinipur, Birbhum, Murshidabad, South 24 Parganas, and Purba Medinipur.
In the remaining southern part of the state, moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected. Additionally, winds of up to 30 kilometres per hour are expected in South 24 Parganas and Purba and Paschim Medinipur districts.
The IMD predicted heavy rainfall in northern West Bengal districts, including Malda, North Dinajpur, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar, until Friday. Heavy rain is especially likely in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar districts on Friday.
The north Bengal districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Malda, Alipurduar, Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur and Coochbehar are likely to receive heavy rain till September 27, with isolated very heavy rainfall in the sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar.
