Retired Supreme Court judge Asok Kumar Ganguly,indicted by the apex court panel for sexually harassing a woman law intern,refused to comment on demands for his removal from the post of chairman of West Bengal Human Rights Commission (WBHRC) in Parliament Friday.
Let everybody do what they want to do. I will do what I have already decided to do, Ganguly said in Kolkata. He was talking to reporters after attending office,which he joined after two days leave.
A lawyer,close to Ganguly,claimed that the WBHRC chief is now preparing to take to legal recourse against the allegations and subsequent indictment by the SC panel.
Ganguly would also be replying to a PIL filed in the Calcutta High Court seeking direction to the state government to take necessary steps to ensure that people do not lose faith in WBHRC. A lawyer,Ramaprasad Sarkar,had filed the PIL alleging that people have lost confidence in WBHRC in the wake of the indictment of its chairman by the SC panel.
The PIL has been filed in the court of chief justice of Calcutta High Court Arun Mishra. The hearing date has not been fixed yet,but a copy of the PIL has been sent to Ganguly, the lawyer said.
According to sources,the WBHRC had received a copy of the PIL.
