Thousands of people have been evacuated from Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar districts in the northern part of the state, officials said on Friday. According to sources, places such as Howrah, Hooghly, Paschim Medinipur, Purulia and Bankura districts in the south continue witnessing flood-like situation.

The weather department has forecast rain and thundershowers at most places over Sikkim, at many places over Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Coochbehar and Alipurduar.

Khanakul in Arambagh sub-division of Hooghly has been inundated by incessant rains and unbanked water for the past few days. Several areas of Arambagh, Purshura, Tarkeswar, Jangipara blocks are under water. ens
