Five junior doctors of SSKM Hospital were arrested on Monday for allegedly assaulting relatives of patients after denying them admission. Cases have been registered under two non-bailable sections of the IPC against them,said the police. The cease work by the junior doctors demanding adequate security from violent relatives of the patients entered third day today. The authorities of SSKM called an emergency meeting to review the situation arising out of the cease work that has severely crippled the hospital services putting hundreds of patients in dire straits. The strike,meanwhile,spread to National Medical College and Hospital another state-run hospital. State health secretary has called an emergency meeting of the heads of medical colleges in the city to discuss measures to increase security of junior doctors and other staff.
