The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is likely to take over the probe into the Rs 20-crore cash found at Bally municipality sub-assistant engineer Pranab Adhikary’s residence.
A three-member ED team met Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) officers on Monday. Sources said that since crores of rupees have been seized and more is expected to be recovered, ED would like to take over the case. Sources in the ED said it has asked for a copy of the FIR and handed over a written application to ACB in this regard.
ED officials are likely to visit the Pranab Adhikary’s residence on Tuesday, the source added.

Acting on a complaint from a local builder, the ACB sleuths had arrested Adhikary and his son Tanmoy on Friday night after assets were seized from his residence at Bally in Howrah district.
Income Tax officers also visited the ACB office on Monday and handed over letters addressed to ACB chief Ram Phal Pawar. “It is about Tanmoy’s tax liability. The IT will not look the source of income but will want to collect the tax if there had been an income,” said an ACB official.
Meanwhile, stating that more time was needed to interrogate Pranab and Tanmoy, the ACB on Monday appealed for a 12-day police custody when the duo were produced before a city sessions court. Judge Sanchita Sarkar remanded the father-son duo to 11-day police custody till August 29. The ACB also appealed that it be allowed to keep the seized money in government custody.
