A high-level team of senior officials of the Election Commission of India (ECI), led by senior Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti, is scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on Tuesday to review the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and also attend a workshop on First Level Check of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM).
This is the second ECI team visit to the state during the ongoing SIR exercise.
The team includes S B Joshy, Principal Secretary, Malay Mallick, Principal Secretary and Abhinav Aggarwal, Deputy Secretary.
The delegation, during its four-day visit, will focus on assessing the progress of SIR and FLC in several districts, including Kolkata, South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, and Malda.
It will also hold a crucial meeting with District Election Officers (DEO) and Electoral Registration Officers (ERO) of Kolkata North, Kolkata South, and South 24-Parganas on Tuesday.
The meeting is scheduled to be attended by West Bengal’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manoj Agarwal, along with additional, joint, and deputy CEOs.
The house-to-house distribution of enumeration forms (EF) began on November 4 and will continue until December 4.
Over 7.61 crore enumeration forms were distributed across the state on Saturday, with 40 assembly constituencies recording below 75% EF distribution, which include Jadavpur, Baruipur Purba, Baruipur Paschim, Sonarpur Dakshin, Kasba, Tollygunge, Behala Purba, Behala Paschim, Maheshtala, and Kolkata Port. The EC will conduct hearings for deceased voters and collect information from banks, life insurance authorities, and government organizations where Aadhaar is linked.
