The Congress workers today blocked roads across the state in protest against the arrest of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

In the morning, the Congress workers held protests at around 70 places across the state.

Kolkata saw the blockades at various important junctions like Moulali,Bara Bazaar,Park Circus,Hazra and Esplanade. Later, the activists burnt the effigies of UP Chief Minister Mayawati.

“In view of the commuters’ interest,we did not keep the blockades for long anywhere. Even in Icchapur,a train was stopped for a brief time,” said Bengal Pradesh Congress secretary Amitava Choudhury.

Chowdhury said,“Just like harmads of the Bengal government,Mayawati is harming the welfare of the farmers and farmers are being killed.”
